Lava Glazed Sculptural Vase
Made in London
Hand build one-off piece by Chinoko Sakamoto, a Japanese ceramicist now based in Nagasaki.
Trained as a sculptor, Sakamoto found clay a comfortable medium to work with. Sakamoto produces hand-crafted ceramic objects, curious vessels of various scales balanced ambiguously between form and function, ancient and modern, craft and sculpture. Her inspiration is widely drawn from modern sculpture, notably the work of Constantin Brancusi as well as organic forms. Each pieces are carefully hand-built with stoneware and terracotta clay, and then finished as earthy textures by using her own-mixed glazes.
