Japanese tea cups made in Mie, a region famous for Banko-yaki which used Japanese purple clay (which in fact look yellow).
Banko purple clay can withstand very high temperature during the baking process. Clay becomes more porous and the surface area will drastically increase which will expedite the interaction between water and minerals in clay, making the taste of tea softer, smoother, mellower and enhance the flavour.
These cups are earthenware, therefore they need extra care. We recommend you to wash them by hand and don’t use them in the oven, microwave and freezer.
