Elise Gettliffe

Elise Gettliffe’s pieces reflect her diversified training both from her western creative background, having previously worked as a Fashion designer in several European countries, and the strong ceramics tradition that she learned while working in Japan as a Dance Costume designer.
While the forms of her vessels merge together and are evocative of traditional jugs, tea pots and vases, they also bear witness to her contemporary approach of ancestral craftsmanship, as she slowly reinvents shapes and designs through her own method, suggesting a continuation in time. The tactile quality of each handmade element renders a sensation of peace and connection.
For this exhibition, Gettliffe has made three series of work, each present sensitivity and details of her extensive skills.
