Made by a potter Seiji Matsushima in Nara. Seiji also runs a soba noodle restaurant (which is listed in the Michelin guide) with his lovely wife Yuka.
When he is not kneading soba, he is kneading clay. They grow crops and make ash glaze out of it. In his restaurant, everything is served on dishes made by himself. A lovely cycle of life there.
We first met when our family friends took us to the restaurant for lunch. It was a small, simple and warm space they have created themselves. Soba was so delicious, satisfying and perfect. I really enjoy the way soba was served. Like his soba, it was simple but tasteful. At the corner of the restaurant, there were plates and cups among Yuka's homemade plum jam for sale. I took some back to London, and they all found home immediately. This is our second time bringing his work. Hope you enjoy them.
