"In summer 2021, I spent a month in the beautiful West Coast of Scotland on a research residency. There I made many kinds of carvings from bits of wood found in the area near Loch Long. I returned most of them back to the land, but brought a small amount back with me, including this small piece of driftwood. As I strip away the bark of found wood to reveal the forms and geometries within, I realised that it is in fact, how driftwoods are made, and this natural editing process makes driftwoods appealing to many. They are perfect in that sense, and need no intervention from me. This one is an exception." Maiko Tsutsumi
